Load planning templates for forwarders: the load and capacity planning kit

Fuller loads, fewer missed cut-offs.

Updated 20 October 2026 · Steplane is built by Paul, a logistics process specialist with over 13 years in logistics, including at some of the biggest freight forwarders in the world.

The load and capacity planning kit covers the nine steps from confirmed orders to a planned load or booking handed to operations. It includes a planning checklist, a planning board that works out volume, loading metres, air chargeable weight and sea W/M with fill rates per load, a booking request and a change log. It works for road, air, ocean, rail and multimodal jobs. €49 (about $55).

The process it covers

Each step has one owner, a clear start and a record that proves it happened. This is the EU version; the US version uses US terms.

Who it is for

Freight forwarders and transport companies that plan full loads, groupage, containers, air consolidations or rail slots, and want fuller loads, fewer missed cut-offs and every change charged where the contract allows.

Small and medium freight forwarding, transport and logistics companies in Europe and the US, working by road, air, ocean or rail. It works whether your processes are written down today or not.

Questions

Does the planning board work for air, sea and rail, not only road?

Yes. For every order it works out volume, loading metres, air chargeable weight (6,000 cm³ per kg in the EU version) and sea W/M, and shows the fill rate of trucks, containers, rail slots and air bookings. You replace the example equipment with your own.

Which driving time rules does it cover?

The EU version lists the driving and rest times of Regulation (EC) No 561/2006. The US version lists the hours of service in 49 CFR Part 395. This is general information, not legal advice: check the current rules.

What does the change log show?

Every change to a planned load or booking, with the reason, the extra cost, the amount charged to the customer and whether the customer was told in time. The summary shows which reasons come back and how much extra cost was not charged.

Who in my company can use the files?

Everyone in your own company: all staff and all branches, as often as you like. You can share the filled-in documents with customers, carriers and auditors. You cannot resell or give away the templates themselves.

Which programs do I need?

A program that opens Word and Excel files. The files are standard .docx and .xlsx, so they open in all common office programs.
